A Message from NEMA Executive Director Trina Sheets

Due to the continuously evolving circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the NEMA 2020 Mid-Year Forum is cancelled.  This was a very difficult decision, but our first concern is the health and safety of our attendees.  We also took into account the various responsibilities that many speakers and attendees have related to COVID-19, as well as increasing travel restrictions.

We are extremely disappointed as this is the first time in the 45-year history of NEMA that a forum has been cancelled but find ourselves in uncertain and unprecedented times that require extraordinary responses. 

Your registration will automatically be refunded at 100%.  No action is required on your part.

Thank you for your continued support and participation in NEMA.  You are the reason why we’ve been going strong for the past 45 years.  We look forward to seeing you in person at the 2020 Annual Forum in Cleveland this fall!

I am honored and excited to invite you to the upcoming NEMA 2020 Mid-Year Emergency Management Policy and Leadership Forum March 27-31 in Alexandria, Virginia.

In working with NEMA staff and the committee chairs we are committed to ensuring your time spent at the Mid-Year Forum is rewarding and full of important information.  Committee meetings and workshops will host meaningful discussions of emerging issues and trends.  Topics such as resilience and our continued work with FEMA on the implementation of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act, including the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program, will be headliners.

The Mid-Year Forum continues to grow in turnout which is undoubtedly due to learning and networking opportunities attendees gain. Rooms are assigned at check-in. If the type of bed you'd prefer (king, double, etc.) shows unavailable, please book another and make a note of your preference under "special requests" to ensure you have a room reservation.

The discounted hotel rate will be available 3 days prior to and 3 days following the forum (based on availability).

The Washington, DC Metro Area is serviced by 2 major airports, Washington R
eagan International (DCA) located approximately 7 miles from the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center and Dulles International Airport (IAD), located approximately 20 miles southeast of the Hilton. Most major carriers service both airports.

The Alexandria Hilton offers complimentary shuttle service to Washington Reagan National Airport. Complimentary shuttle service is also available to area restaurants, Old Town Alexandria and the Pentagon City Metro stop. Please call the hotel for pick up/drop off locations and times. Cabs, public transportation, Uber and Lyft are also readily available.

The dress code for NEMA Forum committee meetings and workshops is business casual. Business attire is appropriate for the General Session and President's Reception.

We care about your safety! When registering, you'll need to present your state or federally issued photo identification to verify your identity and wear your name badge at all events (including receptions).

Important Notices


  • Please reserve only the number of hotel rooms to accommodate confirmed forum attendees. Past forums have seen the room block fill very early, necessitating an overflow hotel be contracted, only to see large numbers of cancellations at the original hotel just prior to the forum. This makes NEMA vulnerable to fees for not meeting the room block and inconveniences other forum attendees who are forced to stay at different hotels. Your cooperation in this is appreciated. Payment in full prior to the forum is required. Credentials and forum materials will not be assigned to those with outstanding fees.

  • Cancellations received in writing prior to March 6, 2020 will receive a refund less a $250 administration charge.

  • Registration fees for cancellations received after March 6, 2020 will not be refunded.

  • Registrations are transferable.

  • You will be given a confirmation number at the end of your registration that serves as your proof of registration. If you do not receive a confirmation number, please contact NEMA as you will *NOT* be registered for the conference.
