NEMA Membership

Established in 1974, the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) association dedicated to enhancing public safety by improving the nation’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all emergencies, disasters, and threats to our nation’s security. NEMA is the professional association of and for emergency management directors from all 50 states, eight U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.

NEMA helps companies keep current with the latest emergency management issues so that viable and relevant solutions can be developed and offered.

Peer Networking

NEMA offers its members numerous opportunities to share and discuss best practices and partner on common issues.

Committee Engagement

NEMA has committees for every aspect of emergency management. State members make up the voting bodies of each committee, with one non-voting seat reserved for a liaison from the private sector. Private sector liaisons are appointed by the Private Sector committee chair. 

NEMA’s Policy & Leadership Forum

NEMA holds two national conferences per year. The NEMA Mid-Year Forum is held in early spring in the Washington, D.C. area. The NEMA Annual Forum is held in the fall in the home state of the NEMA president.

Lessons Learned from Recent Disasters

NEMA offers learning opportunities to its members through a multitude of venues, including Lessons Learned workshops at its conferences.

NEMA is recognized as the best source of information on state emergency management and is asked on a regular basis to provide comment and testimony to Congress on issues of national importance.

NEMA offers such Web-based services as merchandise, a career center, product, and service provider listings.

Access to Members-Only Areas of the Website

General information about NEMA is available to anyone. Members, however, are given access to restricted areas of the NEMA website, where such proprietary information as a membership directory, policy and research papers, publications, legislative information, surveys, and bulletin boards are located.

Join NEMA

Every state, territory, and the District of Columbia are voting members of NEMA. 
Dues for State Members are $7500 per year.

Associate membership is available to all companies, organizations, and individuals in the profession of public safety.

NEMA operates on a fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. All fees are based on a full year of membership.
